The following treatise attempts to answer some questions that a Christian might have when discovering the Hebrew roots of their faith. I am going to attempt to answer most of these questions line by line. My commentary and scripture references are in white. Questions and comments from critics will be in black. This document is also available as a download - here.

Just before Christ died on the cross he said "it is finished"  What in your opinion did he mean? What was finished? When Christ died on the cross the huge curtain separating the Holy of Hollies tore from top to bottom. In my opinion that was Yah way of saying the sacrificial system is finished.  What do you say it represented?  Shalom - Dan

A better translation of what he said is, “It is accomplished.” As in - mission accomplished. Or even, “it is fulfilled.” Again, this ONE very important thing that I needed to fulfill or accomplish is now done. [I am going to group this response].

Τελέω

The translators used it as accomplished  just two verses prior. Now - on the key verse, it changed to finished? So, how did the translators render it in Revelation? (And, we will assume that Revelation and the Gospel of John have the same author):

I submit that it was nothing to do with the end of anything. But for the sake of argument, let us assume you are convinced we must translate it that way… then, I still have a rebuttal:

Mat 5:17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not [h]the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches [i]others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever [j]keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 “For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

1 - Yeshua says that the law and prophets are still in effect - this includes sacrificial system

Rev 16: 17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl upon the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple (sanctuary) from the throne, saying, “It is done.”

Rev 21:5 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” 6 Then He said to me, “[c]It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. 7 He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his Yah and he will be My son. 8 But for the cowardly and [d]unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and [e]brimstone, which is the second death.”

I quote these two verses because they sound more like the kind of, “Finished,” that you are talking about. Interestingly, the tanslators chose to translate the word as, “Done.” I say this is interesting because the Greek word seems more like it has something to do with beginning or new beginning. Again, more akin to the kind of, “Finished,” that you might be referencing - at the cross.

The verses that are tiny up there and the ones that I omitted for space are:

Revelation 1:1,9,10,18,19; 2:10; 3:2; 4:1,2; 6:12; 8:1,5, 7.

As an additional point, what does the veil to the Qṓḏešh HaQŏḏāšhîm have to do with the sacrificial system? The offerings, even sin (chatat), are brought to the copper (brazen) altar. That is located outside even the Qodesh place. [Please, refer to the diagram above]. So, the veil being torn would only affect the Yom Kippur sacrifice if anything. On that note, have you ever noticed that the writer of the book of Hebrews is specifically detailing the Yom Kipppur offering?

In Genesis 6:13–16 we are given the account of Yah giving Noah specifications for construction of the Ark.  The measurements of length, breadth and height were very precise. The instructions for the Tabernacle were very precise - Ex chap 24-31.

The measurements of the Temple in Ezekiel 40-48 are very precise as well.

Yah was against the building of the Temple - 2 Sam 7, 1 Chron 17. David's plan  for the temple - 1 Chron 28 (Note the times David uses thew words "I" "me"... King David rose to his feet and said: “Listen to me, my fellow Israelites, my people. I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of YHVH, for the footstool of our Yah, and I made plans to build it. But Yah said to me, ‘You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.’

Yehovah chose Shlomo to oversee the building of the Temple. There were things that David was given prophetically that he passed on to Shlomo. Regardless, he was not against the building project; he was against David building it. Again, please refer to the miracle recorded in 2 Chronicles 7:1. Now when Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of YHVH filled the house. That sounds like Yah’s approval to me.

Does the Jewish temple [The Temple of Yehovah] need to be rebuilt before Yeshua returns? Has Yah instructed us to build a 3rd Temple before Christ returns? Many have built a doctrine around 1 verse of Scripture. Many say that for the Antichrist to sit in the temple, it will obviously have to be rebuilt.

I can quote you 6 verses off the top of my head that would imply or confer this fact: There is a sacrificial system in place and and anti-Messiah standing/sitting where he should not be. If this was in the hearts of believers, what difference would that make to the rest of the world? And, is that not where he is trying to gain access as we speak? So, what would be the defining rebellion in the latter days with your interpretation of the abomination of desolation? Was Korach’s rebellion something only manifest in people’s hearts? How about the murmuring and complaining in the wilderness?

Furthermore,  the book of Maccabees gives us a great shadow picture of what the abomination of desolation should look like. It looks much closer to my interpretation of an anti-messiah standing in the Qodesh than yours.

Daniel 9:27 And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of [ae]abominations will come one who [af]makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who [ag]makes desolate.”

Daniel 11:31 Forces from him will arise, desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the abomination [an]of desolation.

Daniel 12:11 From the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the [m]abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 How blessed is he who keeps waiting and attains to the 1,335 days! 13 But as for you, go your way to the [n]end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the [o]age.”

Matthew 24:15-16 So when you see the desolating sacrilege spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the Qodesh place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

Mark 13:14 But when you see the desolating sacrilege set up where it ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the [d]apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above [e]every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of Yah, displaying himself as being Yah.

1 Chron 17:11-14 When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.  I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.’”

Is Yah referencing Solomon or Yeshua? David thinks it’s one of his own sons....Solomon (Going your own way). 1 Chron 28. When Yah uses the words Kingdom and Forever...he can only be referring to one….Yeshua. Israel is thinking this Temple that Davis is planning and Solomon will build is going to last forever.

Both. Yehovah did intend for Israel to be a kingdom of priests and inhabit the land forever. Actually, he intended to dwell with Adam and Chavah in the garden from the beginning. That aside, if Israel and her kings would have lived by YHVH’s righteous Torah (including the Ruach of the law)… There would have been an indefinite succession of Davidic kings. Furthermore, how many times were the Levites and Kohen promised a lasting, perpetual, or forever ordinance? Are all of those covenants and promises thrown out too? I will answer the rest of your questions later. I have been working on these responses for a few hours now. I will briefly say about your word study on sit/set/etc - it is irrelevant given the other 5 passages above. I will talk with you soon - Yehovah allowing. Remember, almost everyone at Shiloh once wrestled with the same things that you are wrestling with. I doubt that you are going to bring anything new to this argument.

And, I wish that I could easily find the e-mails to the last person that presented with this, “Challenge.” I don’t say that to dissuade you. I say that to connect with you. I looked at these verse the way you did once. Have you ever looked at them the way I am presenting to you? I doubt it. Years of Christian theology do hinder our interpretation of scripture. Who is presenting a doctrine that is more in line with standard replacement theology? I do know some folks that hate everything, “Jewish.” They remain in our denomination with all of these vestiges of, “Christian doctrine,” and so I know that happens too.
